There were a lot of things that Effie liked about Spring Valley. She liked that it was small and quiet, and she liked that she didn't have to go out wearing some sort of disguise. She'd always felt stupid having to wear floppy hats and oversized sunglasses no matter the weather- always felt like it made her seem a little pretentious. But here, it was different. She still got the few odd looks (she could mostly imagine what they were saying- hey, isn't that- look who it is, it's-) but that was to be expected. Most of the residents seemed familiar with the sight of a person of celebrity status walking down the main street, or eating in the diner, and visiting the library. So yeah. The lack of disguise was definitely something Effie could get used to. It had been a while since she'd really been allowed out in her own skin- even when she didn't have to hide she had this image to uphold, and it was good to be able to forget about her life for a moment. Not that she'd ever trade it, not for the world- but a break was always well deserved, in her eyes.
She'd managed to come to Spring Valley without her family and management team in tow, and she viewed it as a high success. She was free from the pressure (well aside from the constant phone calls that she did her utmost to ignore at the best of times) and it was just- nice. Spring Valley was nice. It was also nice that she could walk into Starbucks without being papped for drinking a full fat caramel latte with whipped cream and a sprinkle of chocolate shavings. As much as she liked to be away from the city, she liked the familiarity that Starbucks brought with it- it smelled the same as every other she'd ever been in, and the coffee tasted the same, and she saw exactly the kind of people she'd see anywhere else. It was good to have some things kept the same- Effie did get homesick often enough, after all, and even though it was just Starbucks, it helped.
After ordering her beverage, she glanced around at the building- it was pretty empty, if not hugely so- and spotted an empty table in the far left corner of the room. She wasted no time in snagging it, sliding into the cushy leather chair with a soft sigh of relief, blowing lightly over the cream coloured liquid in her mug, fingers dancing around the rim as she waited for it to cool down some more. She didn't really recognise anybody she could see (which wasn't really a shock, considering she hadn't really been her long enough to gain some extended company) but she caught the door swinging open from the corner of her eye, before a familiar face walked in. Effie knew Violet from the diner (which actually had food that tasted a lot better than anything Effie had had in fancy restaurants back home) and they got on well- she deliberated calling the girl over for a moment, before deciding that a friendly wave would suffice. For all she knew, the girl could be very busy, and Effie didn't want to interrupt.

Of course, the money was nice, but she hadn't had much time to do what she wanted to do, which was being outside in the sunshine and lazing around like the majority of her friends were. Instead, she was working in the diner, serving customers and arriving home with greasy hair and more exhausted than she had ever felt before. Factoring in the fact she was taking one summer class for college, and Violet might as well as not be having a summer at all.
Thankfully, she'd only had to work the morning shift, so as soon as she was let go for the day, she'd practically run out the door into the waiting sunshine. It was warm on her skin, and instead of getting into her car and driving back home, she decided to walk around for a bit and enjoy the town she had called home her entire life. There weren't a lot of people around, Violet assumed that they were at the lake soaking up the sun and enjoying the water, or using their own pools rather than wanting to be baked alive as they walked around town. It was rather warm out, and it didn't take long for Vi, who was still in her work uniform, to decide to find somewhere to take cover and perhaps get a cold drink.
It didn't take long for Violet to find the town's Starbucks, and as soon as she saw the sign, Vi made a beeline for it. Starbucks always had such a nice atmosphere, and although it was normally crowded, the drinks were certainly worth the wait. Opening the door, Violet could feel the air conditioning as soon as she stepped inside, and she sighed in contentment. It was then that movement in the corner of her eye caught her attention. Puzzled for a moment, it didn't take long for Vi to place the familiar looking girl's face to a name. Waving back, Violet approached, a wide smile settling onto her face. "Effie!" she called happily when she had crossed about half the distance to her table. Violet had met the girl a few times when she had come into the diner, which had sparked their friendship. Despite having only met her a few times, Violet rather liked the girl, and was surprised to discover she was a celebrity after meeting her the first time. But Violet was unfazed by it, and considering Effie was nice, had treated her like everybody else she knew. "Hey! How are you?" Vi asked, slipping into the chair across from the brunette. "Do you mind if I sit?" She was yet to buy her own drink yet, but since she assumed Effie was here alone, Vi thought she might like the company.

Effie grinned as Violet made her way over- even before going to the counter and ordering some sort of beverage- and pushed her own drink down onto the saucer it had came with, barely even touched. Although it was hot outside, the air conditioning in Starbucks proved to be a great help- the room wasn't stuffy, as it could have been. Still; it was probably odd for her to have bought a hot drink, but she was from Britain. She was used to drinking tea and coffee in all the Seasons. It was something she'd had yet to acclimatise too- the weather here in Spring Valley. It was always a lot nicer than any they'd had back in England, where mostly it rained and the sky was covered in grey clouds. That was another great thing about retreating here, to this little haven of sorts.
"Hey Violet!" she liked Vi a lot, though they hadn't really met often or anything like that. Effie liked the diner, and she tended to go there often enough, and Violet seemed to work there a lot. "Not at all, I'm here alone anyway." she laughed easily as Violet sat down in the chair opposite. She'd used to enjoy being alone a lot, but that was mostly due to the kind of people she knew, the people she associated with. Although she still had a lot of friends in her social circle, she often preferred the company of people who weren't celebrities, too. They were always so much more down to earth, and real. A lot of people she'd met during her career were so much the opposite of that, and it was hard work trying to keep up with their changing trends and constant moods. Of course, not all of them were like that, but there was a significant number. "I'm good- just, you know, taking some time to chill." As were most people she'd seen, she assumed. "And you? I haven't seen you around much, outside of the diner. They working you hard?" Effie smiled, tilting her head to the side.
It was the kind of day where you just felt pretty lethargic- at least to Effie. The heat outside of the cover of the buildings was a sticky sort of warmth, and she guessed it was probably pleasant for people who were lounging down at the beach, or anywhere like that. It wasn't so nice if you were out and about in it- especially not working (she assumed, anyway). Although there were a lot of cons about being a celebrity, she couldn't pretend there weren't upsides too- of course there were, and lots. Unless she had rehearsing or recording to do, then she wasn't really expected to work, especially not when she came here to hide away for a while. Whilst Effie wasn't shy about working, she'd admittedly hate to have to work in a cafe or a shop, especially when they had this sort of weather.

humming and nodding at hearing effie's answer to her question, violet understood exactly where the singer was coming from. although she was on the go pretty much every single moment of every day, vi knew she'd go crazy if she didn't give herself some time to escape from it all. "yeah, everybody needs some downtime." she nodded again, running a hand through her hair absentmindedly. "especially you, miss superstar." with a laugh, violet shook her head. violet hadn't even realized that effie was famous until a friend had pointed it out. of course, that hadn't changed her view of the brunette girl she'd befriended in the slightest. it only made violet admire her more. she knew she would never be able to handle things the way effie did. and although the fact she was famous made violet look up to her, it was effie's personality that really attracted vi to her, and made her want to know her better. after all, effie was just another person. an infinitesimally cool person, but a person all the same.
when the question was turned around on her, violet let out another laugh. "yeah, i've been working a lot." she explained, pulling at the shirt she wore to show effie she was still in her uniform. "just got off work, actually. but hopefully next week i'll have some more time off and get to actually enjoy the sunshine." shrugging again, vi let out another laugh. "the money's good, though." it was then that vi's eyes came to rest on the cup in front of her friend, reminding her that she was yet to actually buy a drink. "what are you drinking? smells good."
